How to Make Unicorn SPiT into a Self Sealing Wood Stain or Seal with Polyacylic

DiY Unicorn SPiT Colored Wood Stain! Can you seal Unicorn SPiT with polycrylic?

YES!

Create solid, semi transparent, transparent & tint wood stains yourself by adding polycrylic for self sealing or water for non self sealing wood stain. It's cost effective & easy to mix!

Self Sealing Traditional Wood Stain Directions:
1 Part Unicorn SPiT
3 - 40 Parts Water Based Clear Coat / Sealant / Top Coat (polyacrylic, exterior sealer, hardwood floor sealer, etc...)

Mix Unicorn SPiT (regular or SPARKLiNG) or ARTiSTiC ViVATiONS METALLiCS  with water based catalyst well in a resealable container. Dilute with higher parts water based catalyst to create a tint or less to strengthen the pigmentations all the way to a solid.

Apply to clean, prepared & dried bare wood surfaces (wood conditioner is optional) with a brush or wipe on using a lint free cloth or sponge.

Wipe off excess to avoid lap lines or brush strokes while still wet.

Once completely dry, seal using water based top coat or oil based top coat of your choice following the manufacturers directions.

Color of end result depends on color tone of wood. Light woods will give a truer color while dark woods will be more earth tone.

Non Self Sealing Wood Stain / Dye Directions:
1 Part Unicorn SPiT
3 - 40 Parts Water

Mix Unicorn SPiT (regular or SPARKLiNG) or ARTiSTiC ViVATiONS METALLiCS  with water well in a resealable container. Dilute with higher parts water to create a tint or less to strengthen the pigmentations all the way to a solid.

Apply to clean, prepared & dried bare wood surfaces (conditioning the wood with a mist of water is optional. Wood conditioner is unneeded) with a brush or wipe on using a lint free cloth or sponge.

While lap lines or brush strokes are rare when staining / dyeing wood using the water diluted mix, if any do occur, simply buff away while wet or dry with damp cloth or sponge.

As the stain / dye dries, it will become cloudIy to let you know its ready to seal.

Dry Time is 3 minutes to 3 hours depending on humidity & temperature.

If the grain raises, buff with clean cardboard once dry.

Once completely dry, seal using water based sealants for tint or transparent dilution. Use oil based top coat if sealing semitransparent or solid.

Color of end result depends on color tone of wood. Light woods will give a truer, brighter color while dark woods will be more earth tone.
